A calm vision check, in one quiet room.

I'm Neha Kulkarni, an optometrist, and this is my room in Kandivali West. Adults come to me for a 35 minute vision check. They leave with a written glasses prescription that any optical shop can use, and a couple of habits for long days at a screen.

One room, one optometrist

I run every visit myself: the vision check, the explanation afterwards, the written prescription.

I don't sell frames. The prescription is yours, and whichever optical shop you walk into can use it. That way nothing in my room is there to sell you something.

What to expect

  • Adults aged 18 and over
  • A prescription on paper, for any optical shop
  • Your results explained in plain words, with room for questions
  • Habits for your screen day, offered as comfort tips and never as treatment

Which visit is for you?

Three common reasons to book, and the visit each one points to. If two of them fit you, the third card covers both for less.

Your glasses feel out of date

The vision check: sight at distance and up close, and a written prescription at the end.

Come to the room

Hulas Basti Garden is on Dahanukar Wadi Road in Kandivali West. A vision check takes 35 minutes, a screen-day consultation 45, and both together 80.

Leave with something in hand

After a vision check that is a written prescription. After a consultation it is a short list of habits for your own desk.

What the vision check is

The vision check is a seated session of 35 minutes, and nothing in it is rushed. Neha starts by asking how you use your eyes in an ordinary week: hours at a screen, reading, driving after dark. Then she checks your sight at a distance and up close. You say which view looks clearer, she adjusts, and the step repeats until your answers settle. She writes down what she finds as she goes. At the end she explains the results in everyday terms.

If your glasses need changing, you leave with the prescription in writing. If they do not, you leave knowing that. Either answer is useful. Bring your questions along with your glasses, and Neha answers them at the end in the same plain words.

The shop is your choice.

The screen-day consultation is separate on purpose. A vision check tells us about your sight, but it says little about a monitor that sits too close or a window glaring behind it. Those are the things the 45 minute consultation goes through.

Video consultation, ₹600

Some weeks the trip to Kandivali does not fit, and then there is a video call with me. It is a conversation. The vision check and the prescription come from a visit to the room.

Keep ready

  • A quiet corner and a steady connection
  • Your usual screen setup, in view or described
  • Your current glasses, if you wear them

Five habits for screen days

Small pauses for a long day at a screen. They are habits for comfort and not a treatment. I would start with one habit and keep it for a week before adding another.

The 20-20-20 pause

Every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Blink fully

Close your eyelids slowly and completely, a few times.

Shift your focus

Look at your thumb at arm's length, then at something far away, then back at the thumb. Repeat a few times.

Palms over closed eyes

Warm your palms, cup them over closed eyes and rest for half a minute, with the weight on your cheekbones.

Screen at arm's length

About one arm away, top edge at or just under eye level.

For a look at your own desk, the screen-day consultation is ₹900.

Before you come

  • Bring your glasses, if you wear any.
  • Think about your hours at a screen and where the screen sits.
  • Put a preferred day in your request.

What I don't do

  • I don't treat conditions or prescribe medicines.
  • No surgery.
  • No frames. The prescription is yours to use anywhere.
  • Adults only, 18 and over.

Questions people ask

Do I need to bring anything?

Your current glasses, if you wear any.

Can I use the prescription at any optical shop?

Yes. It is written on paper and you choose the shop.

Which visit should I choose?

If you want your sight checked or a new prescription, choose the vision check. If your trouble is a long day at a screen, choose the screen-day consultation. If it is both, book both together and save ₹200. Not sure? Say so in your request and we will suggest one in our reply.

Is the video consultation a vision check?

No. It is a conversation, and the check itself happens in the room.

How soon can I get a Saturday evening slot?

About a week out, because the room is small.

Do you see children?

No. Adults only, from 18.
